B. Committee reports
1. Standing committees
b. Operations
In August we received our Pineapple Tech digital translators for channels 35, 39, and 41. The channel 39 translator seemed to sustain a broken standby toggle switch on the front panel during shipping and that the power cord and manual were missing from the channel 35 translator. Pineapple Tech was contacted regarding replacements. We also filed 16 television channel renewals with the FCC with a $55 fee per channel. During the Labor Day weekend, the Laurel Mountain translators were turned off in order to service and repair the UHF antennas in preparation for the roll out of the new digital translators. On September 5th, channels 35 and 39 went on the air in digital and per our flash cut application, the translators on channels 55 and 57 were switched off. Channels 7 and 11 at "B" Mountain were determined to be operating at low power and in need of repair, so channel 7 was removed and a temporary translator was put in it's place so that repairs could commence.
3. Digital Transition committee
Greg Best was given the ok to apply for eight "B" Mountain digital companion channels for $1600.
4. Web site committee
The web site was updated to reflect the new digital channels and the sections on how to receive TV Booster signals were updated, too. It was suggested that a pamphlet be made of the work to hand out at Santa's Art Shop. The annual newsletter was also posted to the website and given to Treasurer Blazek to have copied for mailing.
E. Discussion items
1. Set top boxes
There was a short discussion regarding the seeming inability to get local merchants to stock and sell HDTV tuner set top boxes.
2. Antenna installers
There was a short discussion regarding the loss of "Rent-a-Hubby" to install antennas and about another installer needing to be found.
3. KABC-DT and KCET-DT
There was a short technical discussion about the work required to reliably receive channels 8 and 12 from Blueridge in order to bring up KABC-DT and KCET-DT on channels 41 and 51.
F. Closure
1. Next meeting: 5:00 PM, November 6, 2006, Kern County Library, Ridgecrest
2. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 PM.
