NEWS RELEASE
3 February 2022
Indian Wells Valley TV Booster, Inc.
Weather-Related TV Booster Outages are Largely Resolved

All sixty-five Television channels and eight FM stations provided free by the Indian Wells Valley TV Booster were forced off the air on January 21st by wind gusts that caused prolonged high-voltage arcing on SCE power equipment at the TV Booster facilities on top of Laurel Mountain, knocking out all transmitters due to the power outage. Most of the TV channels were put back on the air by TV Booster volunteers on Monday January 24th. Two transmitters were destroyed by the power surges and older backup transmitters were temporarily put into service. Six of the FM radio stations were also put back on the air at that time.

Two of the FM radio stations (classical, and jazz) have been off the air for over 4 weeks, due to weather related damage at the originating mountain top facilities southwest of Las Vegas. TV Booster personnel have remained in contact with the originating broadcaster, reminding them of the enthusiastic user community for those unique stations in the IWV.

The Indian Wells Valley TV Booster, Inc. is a volunteer nonprofit organization that has been rebroadcasting free Television (now including HD) and FM radio stations to the IWV since the early 1950s. Residents can receive these stations using antennas. All funding is provided by yearly donations from users and occasional small grants from local charities. Facebook activity shows that the number of households using the Television and FM radio services far exceeds the number making donations. Donations are essential for continuing these services, especially with the loss of the TV transmitters, and can be mailed to: IWV TV Booster, PO Box 562, Ridgecrest, CA 93556-0562. You can learn more about the TV Booster by visiting their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/IWVTVBooster or the Booster web page http://www.iwvtvbooster.org/.

You got your works in a drawer and your color's on track
You have to break away but you always come back
You make a hundred changes but you're always the same
You make me so excited and you make me so lame
You're just a tube full of gas and a box full of tin
But you show me your charms and I want to jump in
Oh if only your chassis was covered with skin
'Cause TV you're my everything

What is the TV Booster?

The Indian Wells Valley TV Booster (IWVTVB) is a not-for-profit volunteer organization that has been receiving, translating, and rebroadcasting TV and FM radio stations' signals to the IWV since about 1950. Before cable and satellite TV signals were available, the TV Booster system was the only means to provide TV and FM reception for the residents of the Valley. Today, many valley residents support the IWVTVB so that they can receive over-the-air HDTV programming with image quality that is unavailable from and superior to that available from satellite or cable services, while others continue to support the IWVTVB so that those without satellite or cable service can receive TV and FM radio over the air. The Booster's equipment is bought and maintained with funds donated by residents of the IWV. Other residents donate their time and services to keep the equipment operating and to make improvements.
